MILES LENNOX: It’s hard to believe, but 18-year-old Miles Lennox has been playing piano for over 10 years already. The hard work and late nights have paid off, with him winning the 2019 Essentially Ellington award for best Big Band composition, and with his school winning the 2018 Essentially Ellington Big Band Jazz competition in New York City.

LAVIE: Born in Miami, raised by her Haitian immigrant parents along with her brother and two sisters, LaVie discovered her love for music at a young age; recalling “My sister Sandrine and I use to watch Whitney Houston videos on VHS and sing into my mother’s hair brushes”. Now she herself is a proud parent of a teenage daughter and identical twin boys, who also have a great love for music. From her vivacious stage performances to her infectiously rapturous personality, LaVie is a shining example of living life to the fullest! With such a becoming name, “LaVie,” which in French means “The Life,” she uses her eclectic contemporary sound as a vehicle to encourage and empower all people to seek out and experience “The life” that God intends for all to have!

Olympia Theater (Main Stage) Jazz Event – Gregory Porter
Saturday, March 21, 2020
8:00 PM
Gregory Porter
Known for his warm baritone vocals, Gregory Porter rose to acclaim in the 2010s with his earthy, cross-pollinated brand of jazz, soul, and gospel. A gifted singer of standards as well as more contemporary soul material, Porter has earned favorable comparisons to his idols Nat King Cole, Donny Hathaway, and Stevie Wonder. He announced his arrival by picking up a Grammy nomination for his 2010 debut, Water. After signing to Blue Note, he gained even wider notice for his third album, 2013’s Liquid Spirit, which hit number two on the jazz charts, and won the Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Album.
Although his original songs are his main focus, Porter often returns to his roots, such as on his 2017 tribute album Nat King Cole & Me. Paying tribute to the artist who had been most influential on his own music, Nat King Cole & Me featured Porter’s versions of some of Cole’s most treasured classics, including “Smile” and “Mona Lisa.” The concert album One Night Only: Live at the Royal Albert Hall arrived in 2018.
